Dr. J. Sreenivasa Rao
He is an esteemed mathematician who played a leading role in creating the new Department of Statistics and Applied Probability at University of California, Santa Barbara and was its first Chairman. He has provided guidance to as many as 35 Ph.D. students and has published extensively in leading international journals. His research work spans a wide spectrum which includes Goodness-of-Fit tests, Linear Models, Non-parametric and Semi-parametric inference, Bayesian analysis, Reliability and most notably, Directional Data Analysis. He was elected fellow of several professional organizations including the American Statistical Association, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, the Royal Statistical Society, and the International Statistical Institute.
